Landed a remote coatings contract last fall by applying within 12 hours and leading with a one-page portfolio; filtering for “formulation” and “coatings” made it surface. “Remote work is becoming more common” — true, but a lot are stealth-hybrid; scan for weekly lab days in the posting and ask about on-site expectations before you burn cycles.

Quick tip: I started getting callbacks for remote formulation roles after adding specific methods to my resume — ‘DSC, TGA, rheology (MCR), ASTM D3363/D4541’ — and setting job alerts to Past 24 hours; just note many ‘remote’ posts are hybrid with 1–2 lab days. @david_kim34 is right about speed; treat ‘remote’ as Schrödinger’s lab until you ask about onsite days.

I’ve had better luck with remote formulation/coatings roles by attaching a tiny 2-page “methods appendix” PDF — one DOE plot, brief steps, and instruments used; recruiters referenced it. Since these listings are real-time and expire fast, I filter by “Past 24 hours” and set LinkedIn alerts so I can apply within 6 hours. Small caveat: a lot of “remote” posts still want a monthly on-site day for scale-ups, so ask up front.
