Analyzing Pollutants in Urban Watersheds

And i recently started a project assessing pollutant levels in local streams, and I’m looking for techniques or resources specific to urban watershed analysis. I found that analyzing heavy metals can be particularly revealing. If anyone has experience with sampling strategies or analytical methods for this, I’d love to hear your insights or recommendations.

I’ve had success using passive sampling devices for heavy metals… They’re pretty effective for urban watersheds, especially in the spring when runoff is highest. Agree on the timing part — strategizing your sampling around storm events can really help capture peak levels. Have you looked into any specific devices or methods yet?

And consider using grab samples during high rainfall events. I found the data was more indicative then. Check out the EPA’s urban water resource page for more sampling tips: Water Topics | US EPA.
